The Secret Fire RPG (TSF RPG) is a game that I helped develop with the team at Secret Fire Games. Whilst the game resembles certain aspects of D&D (but isn’t OGL), the game mechanics ensure that you never have the same character or magic item and it is far more fun to play! Making even low scores an RPG tool, it uses a system of Energy points to give you certain advantages in exchange for playing to your weaknesses as it were. The character wheel means that you have a cool way to show just how your PC is seen by the world, and give a much clearer way of playing alignments.

Secret Fire Games are also giving away some of the profits (10%) for a memorial to Gary Gygax, the creator of D&D and to a greater extent, RPGs as a hobby.

As a designer (still getting used to that!) I’m responsible for a larger number of the descriptions throughout the book, which definitely has a “Weird Fantasy” vibe to it. We worked to give a visceral and Cthulhu-esque feel to it, a Robert E Howard-/James Vance-style world where every magical spell has consequences and there’s something nasty watching and waiting Outside.

From what I’ve heard of Lamentations of the Flame Princess (LotFP), that’s a pretty good achievement! See Tenkars Tavern for a full review of it, along with a similar one from RPG.net. I’ve also going to be working upon the forthcoming Secret Fire RPG supplement THE SECRET FIRE Fragment I: Tree, Shadow & Flame, which includes new Races, Callings, Prayers, Spells, Monsters, Talismans, MC Advice, Dominion Creation information, a spotlight on the Druid-Demon War, and various Optional Rules — like the highly popular Adrenaline Roll we’ve been playtesting at conventions.
